UMG Purpose:
To use the knowledge and experience available from members of the Group to consider specific issues and provide guidance about good practice land management in relation to those issues. In doing this, the Group will draw on existing and new evidence, and practical experience of sustainable land management.
The Group will provide advice to Defra and Natural England via the USF and practical advice to land managers and stakeholders. It will be primarily a practitioner led group.
UMG Governance:
The Group will appoint a chairman, who may be a member of the Group, or external to it. The current Chairman is Simon Thorp, a consultant to The Heather Trust.
Natural England will provide secretariat support to arrange and record meetings, and circulate papers and updates.
The main business will be delivered through short-lived Task and Finish Groups, and the topics to be addressed will be agreed with advice from the USF. Each T&F Group will have an appointed chair.
